scanning

I did some black fine liner drawings that were more detailed and worked on them being more complete cells. These drawings were my favourite that I have done and I very pleased with how professional they looked with my observation of the cells translating well onto the paper.

Scanning them in I started playing around with them on photoshop, first I started doing a number of designs layering them up and trialling colours. I was doing a number of blue designs, mainly because I like blue. But then After a while I decided to scrap that idea and go back to the drawing board. The photoshop trials I was doing didn't inspire me at all and I wasn't excited by them enough to move it on with the project.

So I went back to drawing, looking at how I could get colour into the work. I started to research into the bright colours that the cells were, it didn't seem as though there was a set colour at all and they all seemed to be random. I started looked at the body and somehow ended up on thermal imaging cameras and the bright colours they gave off. Something about this interested me and the link between the living body and the cells really interested me and this was something I then started to adapt.

Doing some more of the coloured fine liners with the water over the top I focused on oranges, reds, and blues, all quite bright and vibrant representing body heat. I did a number of trials, looked at how much water would leave some of the cell designs and how too much would wipe away the design all together. I found a nice balance and continued trialling with placing the colours in different places.
